Hamade is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Dr. Hamade received his doctorate degree in Engineering Science & Mechanics from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia in 1988. He spent a decade practicing engineering in a variety of corporate settings in the US before joining the engineering faculty at AUB in 1999. Dr. Hamade currently teaches courses in design, materials, and fabrication. His research interests are in the area of materials processing and simulations with emphasis on sustainability. Mu'tasem A. Shehadeh, PhD

Dr. Shehadeh obtained his doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University in 2005. He received his Masters and Bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Jordan. His research interests are in the general area of solid mechanics with the focus on multi-scale modeling of the deformation mechanisms in crystalline materials. His current research is focused on the modeling and control of friction stir processes. He obtained his Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the American University of Beirut in 2013. After obtaining his Master of Engineering degree from AUB in 2008, Ali worked as an Instructor in the ME Department for 2 years. Previous research topics that he worked on include: tool condition monitoring during machining operations, vibration induced micro-machining, composite structures optimization, innovative carbon footprint calculator, biomedical material testing, and prediction of students’ learning curves of computer-aided design, CAD. Ali is a recipient of the CCC Doctoral Fellowship in Manufacturing at AUB. He also received a recognition award from the Lebanese Research Achievement Program. Ilige S. Hage, PhD student

Her Ph.D. dissertation deals with a biomechanical subject focusing on sawing of bones. Ilige Hage is a mechanical engineer, having graduated from the Lebanese University faculty of engineering (Roumieh) with a BA in Mechanical Engineering. Ilige Hage has received a scholarship from France for a double diploma to pursue a master’s degree at Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France) Master SMA-Design and simulation of complex products and systems-metal assemblies and complex compsite-EMC2. Ilige Hage’s research interests are related to processing (image processing and enhancement, neural networks), machining (cutting, drilling…), and modeling of materials: metals and natural materials. Zeina G. El Chlouk, PhD student

She is currently doing her senior project on the simulation of the behavior of wood and the variation of its mechanical properties under different environmental conditions in the Mechanical Engineering department at AUB with the collaboration of Tecman Industry. She has a BS in chemistry from the Lebanese University. Zeina El Chlouk has worked on several projects, such as the weldability of Invar. She also did training at different Lebanese companies such as Sika Near East, Pharmaline, Air Liquid, and Ksara. Shamseddine is currently a first year PhD student working under the supervision of Professor Mu’tasem Shehadeh in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the American University of Beirut (AUB). She received her Diploma in Physics “Maitrise en Sciences” from the Lebanese University in Hadath, Lebanon in June 2008, and her Master in Physics from AUB in February 2012. Based on her Master's Thesis, She published a paper in the Infrared Physics & Technology journal entitled "Model for the unpolarized infrared reflectivity from uniaxial polar materials". She worked as a physics lab instructor at AUB; her experimental work was related to mechanics, classical and modern physics, electricity and magnetism, and optics. She is expected to obtain her BE in June 2013. Mariam has been engaged in research since her second year. She worked on a project about the assessing of the public perception of treated waste water in Lebanon. She then worked on a project to characterize and survey the defects in aluminum cast alloys. The outcome of this work was a comprehensive survey paper that will be submitted to a journal. In summer of 2012, Mariam completed a two month technical internship in Cement de Sibline where she was exposed to the real work environment. Ghalayini is an administrative supervisor of the Mechanical Engineering Labs at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Hisham received his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio in 1986. He was trained at 3M Gulf for 2 month, and worked at Olivetti -Tetracom as sales Engineer before joining the Mechanical Engineering Labs at AUB in 1988. His duties as an administrative supervisor of ME labs include following up of inventories counts, handling, organizing stocks, monitoring ordering and receiving new equipment. He is also responsible for setting up new experiments, FYP students advising, helping and consulting, issuing of service requests, maintenance and lab enhancements, solar research, and execution of projects and schedules as suggested by faculty members. He was responsible of the weather station, solar systems, and wind turbine power generation of Wing C. He also taught lab courses such as the former ME lab I, ME lab II, ME lab III, ME lab IV and automotive mechanics engine shop. Currently, He is executing solar photo voltaic panels for power generation research projects on Bechtel roof. In addition to the built indoor climatic chambers at SRB building and outdoor climatic chamber, he is working on desiccant Heat exchange, water desalination, and gas fired absorption chiller experiments on Bechtel roof. He received his Bachelor in Telecommunication in 2002, and his Master in Business Administration in 2009. He attended one month intensive training at the HAAS Automation Inc. in California, USA about Programming and maintenance of the Computerized Numerically Controlled (CNC) Machines in January 2005. He also attended an advanced training at SURFCAM Company in Westlake Village California on 2D-3D CAD/CAM. He successfully established the new CNC Materials and Manufacturing lab by installing, calibrating, setting up, and programming the high-tech CNC Milling and Lathe machines. He launched the CNC Materials and Manufacturing lab activities by providing his professional services and superior manufacturing CAD-CAM knowledge to all the AUB and AUBMC departments since 2005. A big number of AUB graduates owe him their success in research papers and final year projects; this success was recognized through receiving international awards and the AUB Dean’s award for creative achievement by the AUB engineering students.
